My interpetation of a dutch 17th century cutlass
Just finished my interpretation of a most likely dutch cutlass from the 17th century, I found it at a french auction site a few months ago

All handmade from steel and red deer antler grip, lots of work but pretty pleased with it

Lenght of the blade is about 65cm, total lenght about 81cm and weight is about 1400 grams

Hope you guys like it

That looks like a pretty good reproduction.

Thank you very much!
Looks like a brutally effective weapon!

How is the shell attached to guard?

Also, the pommel (on the original as well as reproduction) looks to me like it should be facing the other way around. I mean, the "pointy" end on this kind of pommels usually is oriented towards the finger guard. As it is, it just doesn't look right. Anybody else had the same impression?

Thanks Alex!

The shell is just attached with friction, looks like it’s just done this way on the original too but it could have been soldered but definatly not a forge weld

For sure it feels a bit akward with the pommel facing that way but maybe it has a purpose? I can hold it comfortably but I need to place my hand a certain way
