I bet Mr. Kelly is the only state trooper in the country who's patrol car features both a Remington 870 and a two-handed great sword!

You may laugh now, but there have been times when that was true!

Hey! I love knights. I just hate plate armor. The heyday of the knight was long before even transitional plate armor imho. The 13th century is the pinnacle of western civilization. I'd love to get a type XII, full mail armor, a nice destrier, and go at it. But the category was describing icky plate armor. Compared to the cool fabrics, nifty clothes, camel riding, fun lance techniques, and superb swords, plate armor doesn't hold a candle.

Amen! Mail rules!

I think that really loses the allure. I mean, silk, billowy, mail?? Nah...

Not in my world Petri, a shinai is a sorry excuse for a two hander.

Well I do have piratical tendancies but.... IT'S TIME TO GO A VIKING BOYS!!!
Knigit swashbuckler!
Kill things, in the name of the king, while beeing as flamboyant and fiendishly charming as posible...

Further more, I have long been an advocate of the chainmail Burka as the ultimate protective garment...
Official "Aaron" diagnosis:

Full-blown Knight with Viking tendencies.

With both a full late 13th C Templar kit and a full 16th C harness nearing completion, discussions for a full Gothic harness in the works, and plans for (and good start on) a collection of swords covering the entire Okeshott Typology, the Knight is a more than obvious category.

Along with my 1/2 German blood, I'm also 1/2 Swede - and it shows. My Icelandic Thor's Hammer never comes off, and I spent a very cold season at MTA in the Viking camp (or raiding the other camps) back in 1992 or 1993. Blue ribbon camp, and a heck of a lot of fun. Oh, and I can tell you what happens when a WWI US Infantryman gets interrogated by Valgard and Thorfinn at spearpoint!

Will you please post pics of your 13th century Templar kit? That's right up my alley time period-wise and I'd love to see it.

Yes, would love to! Your input would be GREATLY appreciated, as I want to get it dead, dead on. Maille is nearly done (some mods to the chin in the coif, the upper halves of the cuisses plus soles, and mittens on the hauberk still to go). I am working with a tailor to get the clothing correct - from the braies to the surcoat. The shield and the leatherwork are in my plans for this next couple of weeks, but will likely need to wait a while to order the right Albion... still reeling from the hit I took from Uncle Sam. Let me get a little further down the path, and I'll share as much as you want to see.

I'm basing the kit on plate H (p. 40) in Osprey's Knight Templar, 1120-1312. So far, it is pretty close. I'm debating the coat of plates...

Though this is a project I have been wanting to do for years, KoH as well as some other recent reading has lit a fire. My intent is to have it complete for the Texas Ren Faire.
Mostly Category 4: The Knights and a bit of all the other categories.

On the other hand: shinais are great if you don't have an excuse to use a two hander.
I'd have to go with a major in the Knight and a minor in the Barbarians.....
It's all good.
Knight, definately knight. With a minor in Roman.

The picture has been cropped to protect the inocent and poorly costumed. Unfortunately, it also cropped the sword. But you can just pick out that it's the Del Tin Venetian Two-Hander.
Hey! I love knights. I just hate plate armor.

Hey Alina, what don't you like about plate armor? Just FYI, I'm somewhat more of a maille person myself but I still think plate is cool. -Ted

Ummm...it's ugly?

That and Islam never had it :p
Definitely Category 4: The Knights. (Although I do have some leanings to Category 8 and Category 5 as well.) Everything about the noble lord in his castle appeals to me. And I have to say you guys are whacked ;) … plate armor is cool and beautiful. I love mail too, but plate rules! :)
Well, it will take me a few hours to get my world back in shape again after seeing the tachi put forth as an example of chinese swords, instead of japanese, so I guess I have little choice but to put myself in #5. Oh well, time to go and dice the neighbours car.
