Did the Celts use axes?
Hi everyone, I'm new to this fantastic forum even though I've been reading articles and discussions for quite some time.

I am a great lover of history, especially on the Celtic and Roman world (perhaps because everywhere here where I live there are traces of these two great peoples?)

Anyway, the question: Is there any evidence claiming that the Celts (especially the Gauls) used axes in their warfare? In all my research I have never been able to get a precise idea about it. Swords and daggers have always been found in tombs, but should this therefore rule out a priori that they used axes in war?
Welcome! There is apparently a *little* evidence for Celtic battle axes, but I'm not sure of the details and they were pretty clearly not common. A couple finds, maybe some artwork. Like most of the world, the Celts were spearmen, primarily, with the wealthy carrying swords as sidearms. Hopefully someone here has better information?

Matthew
