For Sale: Albion Mark Hersir Viking Sword
This listing is marked SOLD and is no longer available

The Albion Mark Hersir is a recreation of an authentic Viking sword that was traditionally assembled with a two-part pommel. This sword is made by Albion Armorers in Wisconsin and designed by noted swordsmith and researcher, Peter Johnsson. It is thoroughly researched from originals in Sweden and other parts of Europe, the Hersir features, a high carbon steel blade, mild steel fittings and silver wire. The grip is stabilized birch with a leather cover. It is dyed black. The blade and fittings exhibit a smooth, consistent satin finish. This sword is in "new" condition. It retails new for $980.

Original Viking swords of this type (known as a Peterson Type H) used two part pommels (see picture below of a Type H in a Swedish museum) to accommodate decorative elements. The base was wedged into place and then “peened” under intense heat. This ensured that the pommel would stay secure during the heat of battle. The upper portion of the pommel was added later. This allowed the addition of silver, copper of even gold wire to be sandwiched between the two pommel pieces. The upper pommel was riveted into place to ensure it was secure during use.

The blade is based off of countless examples that are in collections throughout Europe. It is classified as a Geibig Type 3. It bears the same handling characteristics as the originals on which it is based. Contrary to popular belief, Viking swords were very sharp, and so is this recreation.

The sword I am selling looks exactly like the sword in the pictures on Albion Armorers website.

Asking $700, $25 domestic shipping (includes insurance, packaging and postage). International shipping will be determined once purchased. I also can take credit cards through Paypal (please add 3%).

I really need to move this sword. I have just moved into a smithy to help with my after hours custom projects, and I need to finish paying for it.

So, I am dropping the price to $780
