late Medieval spear help
Hello,
I was wondering if I might seek some aide with a question that has emerged for me. I have a project I am doing centered on/in the Wars of the Roses period (1460-1487). I know well that the primary weapon of a knight on horseback would be a Lance, and pollaxes seem to certainly have been prevalent as a weapon when fighting on foot. but my question is this in this period would it be uncommon to see a knight equipped with a spear as his primary weapon when fighting on foot? I know the spear was used as a primary weapon in the early hundreds of years war, and into the battle of Agincourt. I was just curious if it would work for this period for high ranking knights. I appreciate your thoughts.
The continuing appearance of dismounted lance/spear combat on the tournament ground and a continuity in appearance in fighting manuals, evolving into half-pike action, suggest it's possible. The pollaxe would be the gentleman's weapon of choice though, I would think.
