I'm going for what is commonly depicted in skylitzes, a blue dalmatian tunic with a pair of black boots and red legwear. I don't know anything about the legwear beyond the colour though. Were they pants or hoses? Were they made of wool or linen? How were they fastened at the waist? For that matter, does anyone know what kind of red I should use?

Any information about them would be appreciated.
