Anybody know where this spear is from?
Hi, I'm new to antique weapons and just acquired this. The lady that I got it from thought it was a whaling spear, I was thinking more medieval. What is puzzling to me is the slot below the spear head. At first I though halberd?? Any information would be appreciated. The overall length is 79"

Thanks!

Dan

Harpoons tend to have barbed heads or toggles. I agree it's likely an 18th or early 19th century halberd, where the sheet iron ax blades are riveted into the spear point.
