The first few photos look so good because they were taken by Nathan.

The scabbard is poplar covered in oxblood leather to match the grip. The steel chape was made by an armorer for the scabbard, and it too is blackened steel. The hardware was stripped and re-blackened a few years ago, and though it's not clear in the newer (bad) photos, the blacking looks superb. It was a bit splotchy when I got it.
