Hello everybody! Happy

It is fun to be among so many knowledgeable people. I would like to ask you for help. If you follow the link I posted you will see a British Pattern 1796 Light Cavalry Saber. On its blade there is a marking with the letters S and C. Does anyone know what they stand for. I've done some research online. The closest thing I have come to is that they could stand for South Carolina. The letters look undeniably newer than the manufacturer's marking on the blade, so it must have been hit in recent times.
