And to whoever sent in 'Albion Swords - Darwin's Little Helper' - pure gold!

And congratulations to Andy!!

Wow, look what happens when you haven't been to the website in a week or so. You go and win a contest. Maybe I should stay away more often. ;)

Thanks guys. And thanks to the good folks at Albion for holding the contest. I was just talking to Mike and told him that when the contest was first announced that I almost didn't enter. I didn't think I'd come up with anything good, but in the end the chance at a free Next Gen got me to thinking.

So, now I have to pick a sword. The problem is there are so many Next Gens that I want. But after some consideration the short list is the Jarl. the Munich or the Dane.

I can understand the difficulty, Andy! Out of this list (3 pieces I also want quite badly), I'd probably go with the Jarl, personally... the others are a fair way away from production - I'm just not THAT patient.

Let us know what you decide, man! Pretty awesome! Again, congrats!
Aaron, you and I think alike. I had the very same thought about the Jarl. I can have it NOW, or I can wait a good while for the Munich or what would seem like forever for the Dane. In fact, I think I'll call Mike right now and pick the Jarl.

Lol. If I was a superhero I would be Instant Gratification Man.

Yeah - go for the instant Jarl gratification. You have time to save up for the Munich and the Dane

That was my thought exactly. I'll eventually have all 3... may take a bit, though, with neat pieces surprising me along the way... Howy did mention a few "secrets" in another thread... For now, though, I'd be all over that Jarl.
The Jarl?... It's your decision of course and I would hesitate as much as you, but personnally I think that the Munich is well worth the wait.
Anyway congratulations for your victory in this contest !

David
The Jarl is an incredible sword, and it's anyone's guess when the Munich will actually make it to production(I have my name on the list for that one too so I understand your dilemma). Don't lay your hopes on a concept drawing. Choose one that's actually in production. Choose the Jarl and you won't be disappointed.

Similar thoughts here, Patrick. I also know how you feel about your Jarl... After seeing and handling a Hersir firsthand, I can now better appreciate the 2-piece pommel and silver wire work on the Jarl and Huskarl. You just can't appreciate the fine work and fitting that went into fashioning such a piece as these three from pictures, no matter how good they are.

Tastes, of course, are somewhat subjective. What floats my boat, would probably sink someone else's. If the Viking and Anglo-Saxon pieces do suit you, the Jarl would be an outstanding choice. If I were in this position, given my current focus, it would be my personal choice.
I want to give a big 'Thank You!' to the folks at Albion.

I received the Jarl middle of last week. Wow! I have no regrets whatsoever about choosing that sword. It's a beautifully done piece. The two-piece pommel is something else. I can't wait until I get a chance to cut with it. I'll have to work on getting used to gripping it in the appropriate fashion.

An added surprise was the fact that the campaign scabbard I ordered for it came in the same box. With the backlog Albion has when it comes to scabbards I was expecting it to be a couple of months before I got it. But there it was.

Again, a heartfelt thanks to all the great people at Albion.
