A Pair of cased Pistols
Hello Sir`s,
I am new in this Forum and a have a Question of a Cased English Pair (Percussion Pistols) mit Trad-Label in the case from Henry Tatham. The Case has inside green Velour with 2 Pistols/ 0ne Bulletzange/ one Powderflash and one Eley Perk. Caps and a Ramrod.
The kpl. Case is wood-Eiche! I Think this Pair of Pistols is ca: 1830-1835.
All is in a good Condition and the Pistols are ca: 22cm long (evt. Traverler Pistols)
On Top of the Barrel stand -LONDON- and of the Seidplats is " W. Jackson"
Tatham and EGG/Manton usw. wars in the 1830ger Ära verry good Gunmakers from London.
The cased Pair can I buy vor 1200.- Euros, is this a good Price?
Can everywere tell me wat to the cased Pistols say?
I``m Happy for a answer, Thanks.
Best Regards: Wolfgang from Germany.
PS: Sorry for my English :-(
Doesn't anyone have an idea or something to write about?

You may get some answers if you will post photos of the pistols.
My first question is the price ok
Wolfgang,

The reason it's difficult to comment on the price is that it's unclear whether the pistols you are talking about are genuine or fake. Even if they are genuine, seeing the quality of their condition will affect the price.
Hi Wolfgang,
IF (big IF) the pistols are as you describe, and made by Tatham or Tatham & Egg, then 1200 Euros is a very good price to pay. But, as has been said, we need to see lots of photographs of the pistols out of the case to judge authenticity and condition. So you should try to post some photos. Good luck.
Neil
There is a problem, in our city in Germany there is a rather small antique shop. The owner is about: 90 years old and likes to tell what and where he has been, etc. He sometimes asks 2200.- Euro and then again 1200.- Euro. He brought the box directly from England about 40 years ago. With us in Germany, most antique dealers don't want anything to do with weapons. buy and sell. I wrote the text in the translator and hope you can read it.
If I can get a photo, I will of course post it here.
The old man has never heard of the internet and that's why the beautiful box is still in his shop.
I've also been a muzzle loader for about 45 years!

With original box and everything, I'd say the 1200 is a pretty fair price.
In dollars, I'd personally price each pistol at the $500-$600 dollar range, assuming they're in great shape and are of course, originals.
Those two pistols have been together since the 1830s, presumably.
If it is something that nobody else is buying, and you want to buy them, then buy them. It is a rule of mine, "if you want something that nobody else wants, then it's yours".
EDIT: didn't realize it was Tantham & Egg pistols. Yes that's a very fair price. Buy them.
I was at the dealer again today.
I could only make the inside of the lid quickly with my I Phone.
The old Trade-Mark Label ist not so good, as the Pistols.
Regards: Wolfgang

EGG und Tatham
W. Jackson und Tatham
W. Jackson und Manton (1812-1829)

This is a rare set of fine Henry Tatham of London large bore double barrel percussion pistols, circa 1845. Henry Tatham Jr. (c. 1824-60) was the younger son of Henry Tatham (c. 1801-14). He began trading on his own from 24 Pall Mall in 1825 and later moved to 37 Charing Cross by 1834. Tatham and W.Jackson was one of London's best Gunmakers and was a Gunmakers to the Royal Family.
Are there collectors for duel pistols in the box here in the forum?
You are actually right, a pistol (approx. 500.- Euro) plus all the accessories and the original box with Trade Mark label is 1200.- a good price. If the old man has a good day and says 1200.- I immediately take action.
Greetings: Wolfgang
