Sword smith recommendations for TV show
Paul Champagne used to live a few miles down the road from me, but he is no longer with us (and was on a fair number of TV shows, anyway). A TV show is looking for a good swordsmith (preferably in the Northeast) for a segment. I, of course, would prefer someone whose work is historically highly accurate. Any suggestions?
A better response will certainly arise, but I have seen Ilya Alekseyev of BKS do some very impressive work, and he seems perfectly able to do work according to historical methods. Whether those methods are aptly suited to the practices Western Europe is a different debate - I believe he is principally versed in Japanese swordsmithing. Given his presence in the Man at Arms: Reforged series and Forged in Fire, he also has media experience as well.
What about Josh Davis? He makes great swords.
I'd also suggest Craig Johnson from Arms & Armor or Josh Davis from Davis Reproductions. They're both in the midwest, however, so some travel would be required.
Peter and Nathan, excellent suggestions! Thanks!
