15ThC Bohemian hunting crossbow Repro
Hi All,

I have been busy making another fancy crossbow and I hope you like it. Any questions or comments please fire away.

This bow is based on Central European crossbows from the late 15thC.

The stock is cherry with bone and horn inlays and overlays and strips of bone and horn chequer work down each side.

The bow is 450lbs and has safety cords lashed to it and the main lashing to the stock is dyed hemp and the string is linen.

The binding has an applied leather weave at the front. The goats foot and trigger are linseed blacked.

I hope you like it.

On other matters I have been making a few films for youtube recently about crossbows and I have an interesting one coming up about the relative power of a 450lbs medieval crossbow, a 175lbs compound crossbow and 95lbs longbow

New Crossbow
Love it ! Very reminiscent of one of the heavy draw crossbows on display at the Metropolitan Museum, last time I went, which is about two decades ago. Is this very similar to one of the two made for the PBS series "Wolf Hall" ? I know one was made for the Henry VIII character, and the other for Ann Boleyn. One had a steel prod, the other had a convincing looking composite prod. I believe the composite prod was for "Ann Boleyn." Anyway, loved the series and the bows !

Love the videos and your work. Just finished watching a couple of the youtube vids; medieval styles of scabbards/suspension and the new cranequin vid.

A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!

All I can really say if amazing!
Thanks Guys.

You are correct Henry, it is similar to Annes bow for Wolf Hall which was eventually sold to a museum in Switzerland and Henrys bow has touched down in California about a week ago.

Thanks. I have been posting up a few videos recently, mainly about crossbows and have a got a few more coming, so please keep watching. Pretty geeky on the whole but I am enjoying doing them. I have a long one coming up about crossbow power which may be of interest here. You can find my channel here https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCWnlQMQ-ACfhpD68yWRsnJw
