Thanks
Well, the wood of the body is Ayacahuite, and yes I knap the obsidian blades. This macuahuitl weigh near 900gr
This is a two handed macuahuitl and this weigh 1kg 200gr

Also the Aztec Macuahuitl, I'm wondering the effectiveness it had with cutting. I remember reading they were actually sharper than steel but more brittle, and could decapitate a horse if I remember correctly. Wondering if you've ever tested any of them on something. Anyway keep up the good work. |
Thanks mate. The cut is incredible, I did some tests with leather and a few bottles of water and cut them in half without problem, however, if the obsidian hits something hard as the bone it will crash, I guess the macuahuitl could amputate a body extremity if gave a harsh cut to the joints.

Yes, gracias, Armando! I am glad to see someone reconstructing military equipment from outside of Europe.
Do you chip the obsidian for the weapons yourself?

I'd be interested in the test you did as well. Sounds like many of these are very effective at cutting and blunt force impact.
Interesting work to be sure! They look amazing!
