I read someone mentioning a 16th century swedish letter telling the soliders to cut extreamly long shafts for their pikes so they could charge the german forces holding their weapons in the swiss fashion while still outreaching the germans since the swedish forces were not nearly as skilled in fencing at pikes.

I cannot seem to find where i read this though, I will keep trying to find it, just thought I would mention it in case I jog someones memory.
