This was an interesting question and hopefully I can give an interesting answer. Having grown up as a kid in the 60's I have fond memories of all the movies that were around at the time. "Hercules, Ivanhoe, The Vikings" and a myriad of others come to mind. I would make swords out of wood and would do "battle" with countless foes. Even as a high schooler we would pick teams , go to our favorite woods and do battle. BTW, that's how I learned a spear was just WAY more effective then a sword. I started to Hunt and had guns . When I got into my 40's I kind of bought the very best Automatic ar-15's and such.Same with handguns. THEN the Loord of the Rings came out. I knew I HAD to have a sword and bought a piece of crap 2 great sword. I lost interest in swords after that. Then 2 years ago I started getting interested in Swords. I looked for a year online not.knowing what to get. I took a lesson from my Gun buying and decided to buy great quality. My research led me to Albion and I bought a Ghaddhjalt. I got it a month ago and now I'm smitten. Just ordered a Munich in Gothic. I now ready for the Zombie apocalypse or a water bottle , which ever comes. So. There are many trails that lead to the same place, but we all arrive "there", smiling ,proud and grateful we live in a country that allows us to be grown up " Kids", loly

Oh, indeed!

But for me it was Lord Dunsany and "The Sword of Welleran" in specific that really lit that spark of interest, and it still expresses the bittersweet allure of a beautiful weapon better than anything else I've ever read.

"What should a man do with the sword of Welleran?"

"And sin, young man, is when you treat people like things. Including yourself. That's what sin is."
