Hello,

I've been looking for a dagger like this one:

http://www.darksword-armory.com/medieval-weap...gger-1803/

which could be purchased in europe. I've found a lot of places selling daggers but only very rarely this style.
Can someone please recommend a nice shop or maker (european) for an item such as that please?

Kind regards.

ps: If there are also nice suggestions for Viking swords in the same context, it would be very welcome Happy

Hi Fabio,

Be aware that this dagger is not appropriate for early Normans, like those of Hastings or Sicily. I'm not clear if the dagger is closely based upon a real dagger, but if it is the style is more 14th or 15th century.

The evidence suggests that daggers were all but non-existent in the 11th and 12th centuries. We only have one image showing what are probably daggers from the early 11th c. The weapons which are almost certainly daggers in that image have hilts like this A&A piece: http://arms-n-armor.com/dagg216.html . Arguably, one also sees what could be a dagger very loosely similar to the quillon dagger you posted, but it would probably have been more like this one: http://www.todsstuff.co.uk/theenglishcutler/k...gger-1.htm

Aside from this one manuscript image, I know of no other manuscript images that show daggers from the 11th and 12th centuries. We do find a few representations of seaxes as late as near the end of the 12th century (in Sicily at least) but no other daggers. That means that daggers probably were not even used by most people. They belong more properly to the 13th century and onwards.
