visor
Hello All,
I am trying to find out more about this item which has come my way and I am attaching some pictures. It is a visor which I have assumed is 19th c. However the distance between the holes is about 16.5 cm which would seem to be very narrow. It is crudely repaired and perhaps the angle of the repair piece is incorrect or perhaps it is from a boys armour ? The decoration is interesting but I have not found any pictures of similar work. Also the two holes seem to be very crude ?
I would appreciate any comments about the item
Regards
Richard

Are you even sure it's a visor?

Whatever it is, it's either 19th century or a fragment of a piece of tourist-grade work from somewhere in the Middle East or India.
No, I'm not sure its a visor. It looks like one and has holes but it seems too small.
Looks more like a decorative gorget to me, or maybe a lame off of a bevor or the integrated gorget from a close-helm or somesuch. You can see the decorative gorgets used in later centuries as marks of rank, standing or achievement, both militarily and within, if I recall correctly, some fraternal organizations. They would be worn on a chain or thong (see picture). A quick search didn't turn up anything as elaborate (thus the lame thought - no pun intended ), but it's a theory! Without further context on the piece, this is just my speculation - grain of salt also provided. ;)

Thanks for your thoughts Victor.
I was interested in Jeffrey's comment that it could be Indian and I have today been looking at decoration on other Indian artifacts and there are similarities. The piece is a bit of an enigma !
Victorian puppet...?
