Mace book - fantastic!
HI All,

I have come across this book on maces from Bulgaria, though of course most of the styles were pan European, so it is not just of niche interest.

The book contains hundreds (over 400?) images of maces with descriptions and sizes from the 10th through to 17thC.

The maces it deals with are all the 'lump on a stick' type rather than the Gothic flanged styles, but if this is an area of particular interest then this book is a must. These sort of maces http://www.todsstuff.co.uk/todsfoundry/mace.htm

150 Euro, but if these are your thing, then well worth it - I have a copy and I think it is great value for such a body of pictures and data.

Mace book - fantastic!
That book may be interesting to read but too expensive to buy - 150.00€!
Specialist studies are frequently that expensive, as they often involve decades of study and are printed in very limited numbers. I hope it provides Tod with some interesting examples to reproduce.
Define too expensive Shahril. If I was making some, or needed to have that info for a whatever project I'd snap it up like a shot. I'm not, so I wont. For now.... Its niche, but niche books don't get printed in their millions like popular mass marketed ones that appeal to huge numbers of the public so production costs become less. A Dan brown book is cheaper therefore but I'd sure as heck buy the mace book over every signed edition of everything Dan has written....
Thanks for the heads up Tod! Looks like the foundation which publishes the book is also planning other volumes on this really interesting Vatev collection just in the armour news recently. http://archaeologyinbulgaria.com/2016/05/18/u...s-plovdiv/

So while I may not buy this one, I'm happy to bookmark the site to keep an eye out for the other volumes. And I can see that you'd make some great maces inspired by these!
I want to add, if you did not check or notice, that it seems you can get the introduction and second chapter of the book free of charge if you visit their site. My order hasn't quite processed yet, but I really look forward to the read. Thanks for the heads-up, Tod!
Hello everyone :) My name is Valentin (Val) and I am in the Marketing department of Romfeya Foundation.

First of all, Tod, thank you very much for your purchase and for the awesome feedback! Thanks, you rock!

The book really is scientific and not for the masses. And as far as I know, there are just 300 copies printed. Which makes it a limited edition collectors book, hence even more valuable.

"Maces from the Present Bulgarian Lands (X – XVII c.)" contains the amazing 482 maces! This is the biggest mace collection in the world!

And I know that the price feels a little high, but as Tod said, if maces are your thing, it is well worth it. And actually I was authorized to offer all the members of myArmoury.com, a 10% discount. I know it isn't much, but it is something to begin with.

Also if you are visiting Bulgaria this year, you shouldn't miss the exhibition in the archaeological museum in Plovdiv. You can see more in the Events section of our site (there's a gallery). The exhibition will be available until December, as far as I know.

And last, but not least, you are right - there are more books on the way. Actually the second book is already available in Bulgarian, but it is still being translated in English. It should be available in English this December and it is not about maces! :D It's about antique equipment - swords, helmets, shields.

If you have any questions about the books or the foundation, you can ask me here :) If you'd like to take the 10% discount offer, send me a PM and I'll write back with your personal discount code. Or you can head to the site first and download the introduction and the second chapter for free. By the way, Michael, did you manage to download yours?

Have a great evening!
Best Regards,
Val
