THIS IN NOT A REAL HAMON!
I have done quite a few real clayed hamons but this is not one of them.
Sometimes beauty really is only skin deep.

Don't tachis have longer blades and slightly-bent hilts?

Longer blades certainly, They also are much thicker than 1/16", don't have slab handles, welded construction, or maple grips.
This is a Privateer Armoury Forecastle line piece which are not historical and designed to the customers specs. which is why tatchi is in quotes.
Looks like the sort of nasty little thing any Yellow Sea raider would be pleased with. :)

How did you do the fake hamon, BTW, if you don't mind me asking? It's really good looking for what it is!
Send me a pm and I'll give some more details.
Hi Ben, I like what you are doing here, the privateer armoury line is pretty cool!
