For your needs Peter I would recommend differently:

Chinese Ebay forge:

1. Huawei
2. St-Nihonto
3. Hanbon Swords

but I would honestly go for a different maker with that budget, such as John Smith:

Plenty of possible options depending what you are looking for. I just generally always recommend "better" (of course it's always only my opinion) sword instead of more fancy one. It's hard to explain shortly. Happy

If you need some help with historical stuff I can try to help as much as I can.

RE, John Smith,
There have been some issues with John seen on other forums over the last 12-18 month's with delivery of paid for or deposit paid for good's,
you can find it all if you search,
personally,
I hope John is back up to date with stuff and outside issues are solved,
As he makes some very nice piece's seen in places over the last few years, seems very knowledgeable of the craft etc,
But it needs to be mentioned, mores the shame,
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, John seems a good guy who hit a difficult patch with life,
best of luck to him and great for the collector if he's up and running 100%
