Never seen any experience actually, but judging by the model, I say it was indeed possible thrust through mail and even regular steel plates in the same depth was you would do with a half-swording technique.

You can't trust good linen&mail armor with a one handed stab, but you can lock the point into. Then, manoeuvre.
