Joe does such a superb job retillering those Poletti bows. He seems able to pull the most amazing bows out of something a bit dodgy that most would consider a finished product.

Here's something that's a LOT more period.

Joe Gibbs, shooting a 170lb Italian Yew Mary Rose replica bow. Not only a superb bowyer, but also probably the best warbow archer in the world today.

now, thatīs a bow! Hereīs something considerably lighter - repro of light renaissance target crossbow. The bow is spring steel, stock made of oak and bone. Trigger mechanism is from combination of soft steel and brass. In fact, itīs on of my DIY projects, a first attempt at making a crossbow, later I will probably add some bone decorations.

Here are my two bows I am shooting at the moment.

The smaller bow is a laminate of yew on the belly and the back and is based on medieval Italian bows, it draws 55lb at 28" and is fast as hell. It is lovely to shoot and I have had it around 10 years now, and is as perfect as the day I bought it. Made by Chris Boyton.

The larger bow is a fairly new to me and was made by Celestino from Italian high altitude yew and retillered by Joe Gibbs and draws 95lb at 32" and again is a lovely bow. Really smooth to draw and fast.

Chris Boyton has got to be my favourite all time bowyer. The guy and his bows are all class. Lots of subtlties going on with his work, that many other bowyers don't seem to take notice of. I make bows too, but I have a couple of Chris's in my collection. A laminated continental longbow, and a laminated elb which is about 3/4" wide, yet still pulls 50lbs.

Very impressed with Joe Gibbs form, absolute mastery with 170lbs, wow!
