Blacktail Bows

I wanted to share this with you. Not exactly historical but traditional, so I hope it will still fit the forum.

These are a couple of bows made by Norm from Blacktail Bows, a company that specializes in traditional archery. They are based in Oregon and Indiana. The bows are examples of the Legacy Series. I think they are gorgeous.

Yes that is beautiful work, the carving is amazing as well as the wood grain.

This is really fine arts level work, and I assume that they are also good shooting bows.

If there are no wheels on the bow, it's traditional. I must say, those are the most elaborate bows I've ever seen by a Wide margin. very impressive, thanks for the link.

You're welcome.

I agree with your definition. No wheels, no stabilizers, no sights and no arrow rest. By the way they make them in single piece as well as takedowns. Which perhaps is even more traditional. Wasn't able to find a picture of the those though.

I also agree with your assessment of the craftsmanship. Some people find them too much. I don't. The price however is just as elaborate ;) Good thing their other lines are more affordable and very nice in their own right.

I thought you might appreciate the wood work ;) and going by the reviews on archery forums they shoot like a dream. Easily on par with Black Widow bows, Bear Bows and other established brands.

I like to separate traditional and historical (reenactment) archery.

Traditional archery = Bows without modern stabilizers, arrow rests, aiming devices, pulleys or mechanical releasing devices. The bow itself can be made with modern materials, have unhistorical visual features and even look "tactical".

Historical (or primitive) archery = With bows and methods that try to replicate historical equipment as accurately as possible. The bow must atleast be made to look and act like it's from a certain historical era. Materials can still be modern thought as long as it's not obvious.
