Hat from a 1560 depiction of the death of Wat Tyler
Hello all,

I'm looking at making a hat as seen in the attached 1460 English depiction of the death of Wat Tyler, and was trying to figure out how it's put together; if it is simply folded and tied, or there is some stitching involved to keep the floppy bit in place. Has anyone made one or seen a reconstruction?

looks like slightly dodgy impressions of a short chaperon to me. The 'knots' have always puzzled me but the draping of the cloth and the rolled brim suggests something that's made from a tube. Not really enough to say for definite about the loose end really.
