I just joined, so forgive me for bumping what looks like a old but interesting topic.

Weapons:
1A:Well-trained attack dog. (have not decided on breed).
1B.(If dog is not counted as a weapon) Greek Fire grenades. Lots of em. (about 50)

2. A Bullet Crossbow. with shield attachment. (Like the ancient shieldbow) (shield has hole for firing) (shield is a rectangular tower shield)

3. A Warhammer, about 8-10lbs

Yes I know that I would most likely die in a quick and dirty fight against a expert with a knife, So I'm taking precautions.

Armour: Mongolian Lacquered Leather Scale Armour. Full body. (excluding head, feet, and hands)
Armour Continued: Lacquered Leather with steel plates on fingers for gloves.
Armour Cont.: Chainmail Coif with Lacquered Leather cover. And a facemask.
Armour Cont: Steel boots with cloth cover. (I wear heavy boots all the time, so I can run in these)

Other: Warpaint for the dog.
Menacing designs on the armor.
Blackened Weapons.
WHY? Not many people I have seen reply seem to actively consider another weapon: The mind. If you can demoralize the enemy, that enemy will not fight to the best of it's abilities, letting me survive longer. Which is why I chose the Warhammer, and the War-Dog.

Depending on mood, It'd be one of the two....

Medieval English Kit:
1. 80-100# Yew Warbow
2. Hollow Ground Oakeshott Type XVIII (Cut & Thrust One Handed Sword)
3. English Baselard w/ I shaped Handle such as the example in the Royal Armoury in Leeds, UK.

Early 19th Century North America:
1. Kentucky style Black Powder Rifle, 45 cal.
2. Hatchet/tomahawk
3. Field knife

Sticking with traditional materials and no guns....

It is very wet where I live, so a composite bow is out. A big longbow would be a real PITA to carry on your back through the thick cover and dense forests around here. The Penobscot war bow offers the power and compactness of a composite bow without the moisture resistance issues.

The Bowie and Tomahawk combo is an effective and deadly one.

3 'weapon' choices in a destabilised era. That's easy the most firepower thanks.

3 decent muzzleloaders

medium smoothbore, capable of ball and shot for game or people.
12ga smoothbore. (same advantage as above plus large enough calibre you can cover a few targets at range and if lead is a shortage cram other stuff down the barrel)
Percussion cap era revolver.

This will keep my guys shooting the years we need until we learn all the other skills everyone will be using anyway after the transition such as making bows, skinning, clearing fields with fernhooks, trapping etc.

Well since this is a topic I'm actually planning on covering when my channel gets up and running, and since we are also including non period kit now as well. My standard arms (and my wives as well) is the typical m4 variant and a glock 19. Now we will also have ar500 4 point plate which is a decent alagory for harness. Now for the period stuff. Myself is going to have a bastard sword and buckler. The tallhofer or ringeck from Albion actually and a home made buckler and a sax knife that has some modernisation to it. My wife is getting a langemesser and knife similar to mine. She is also getting a stick bow since I know roughly how to make those and the arrows. My daughter is also getting a bow and a kidney dagger and a (viking) axe. My son just turned one so he isn't getting a thing.

Look at the Albion Mercenary, it will be easier to use with a Buckler.
