Yeah, I know, I wasn't being *completely* serious. But I would say they are a depiction of *clothing* rather than equipment. Could just be gloves with long cuffs.

I'm inclined to believe they're meant to represent ancient/Roman armor, probably inspired by Carolingian or Byzantine equipment. That's no guarantee they ever existed outside these images but there is a resemblance to the Tartu bracers and those were probably descended from earlier, simpler forms.
