Looking for info on 17/18th C. Highland practice swords
Hey myArmoury,

I'm trying to figure out what type of practice swords Gaelic speaking peoples of Scotland -ideally around 1700 to 1745- would have used when sparring or learning sword fighting technique. Would they have used singlesticks with leather hand guards or something else?

Thank you kindly

You have answered your own question. According to most scholars who have studied the techniques used for training Highland fighters, the single stick wins out. Using real swords would have been too dangerous as well as expensive for neophytes.
