GDFB Jack-Chains on a Burgundian style arming double
What-Ho good people,

I'm looking into adding some jack-chains to my kit and I quite like these GDFB ones - not too expensive, I'm assuming readily available (Both of which can't be necessarily said for custom ones though those would obviously be nicer) and fitting my period of interest very well. Oh and less ugly than other production chains I've seen.

First of all I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with them - are they any good, how is movement etc. given that the straps around the couter are riveted to the couter and look quite solidly attached which may be a problem directly next to the joint?

And secondly, I'm using a burgundian style arming doublet with rather large puffed sleeves which may or may not get in the way of attaching jack-chains to the upper arm.
For absolute certainty this is something that I'd have to try in person to see how they fit both me and the jacket but any ideas on the topic - for example using only the lower half of the chain up to the elbow with pros&cons - or any solutions for similar quandaries are very welcome.
before committing, check out the jack chains made by Ash at Armour Services Historical http://www.armour-services-historical.co.uk

Have a look at his Facebook pages for more information

I think £70 = around $110USD, custom made or off the peg and lovely.

Wow those Brigandines are amazing! Great lines and design.

I did not see Jack chains though.

Wow, thanks Tod, I didn't check if ASH had any because I deemed them way out of budget but those look pretty good and the price is excellent.

However, I'm less likely to find a pair of those nearby to have a test-fit with the doublet I'm afraid. I might try and test it with the GDFB ones first - assuming the local vendor I'm aiming for has some either in stock or can get some to me to try them - and decide on that basis so I know what I'm getting myself into.

Would be a shame to get such nice chains and be unable to use them on the doublet I have in mind.
GDFB has two different jack chains. One has a couter and is larger I believe.

Yeah they have but the smaller ones are sort of ugly I'm afraid.
I'd go for the ash ones for sure at that price. I dont rate GDFB unless you can handle before you buy. Their stuff too often turns into a lesson in buy once but buy well. Their stuff is cheap, but if you are on a reduced budget thats small consolation if you have a lump of metal thats isn't what you wanted.
I had a chance to try the small - ugly - GDFB Chains at an event yesterday and they work out fine with my doublet. So now it's a question of whether the price for the ASH ones is still valid.
Thanks again for pointing those out to me.
