Hi I'm in the process of buying a hotel in the Highlands and this helmet is on one of the walls, if anyone can give me any information I would be most grateful. For all I know it could just be a reproduction !

Thanks

Ricky

It is just a reproduction, of a sugarloaf greathelm from the 14th century.
That's a great helm I'm sure of It, and I never seen a reproduction like this before. It must be old IMO.

It MAY be Victorian but I suspect that is about as old as it can be.
The object in the original post is without a doubt modern.

Here is a Google image search for sugarloaf helmet. https://www.google.com/search?q=sugarloaf+helmet&client=firefox-a&hs=rGV&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&channel=sb&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=oY8EVOOdBYeQgwTvyYLIDw&ved=0CCIQsAQ&biw=1440&bih=777

To the best of my knowledge, here are no known survivors of this sort of helm.

I uploaded the original image into Google's image search and added the description "sugarloaf helm." This is what I got - bingo:
