Non-Historical Kits and Harnesses?
Hello everyone! I have been very curious about a particular idea--we have a thread for historical kits and harnesses, so since this is the off-topic section, I was curious: Is anyone here interested in non-historical kits and harnesses?

If anyone is interested and happens to have a kit or harness created just for enjoyment but is not historical, please share it here! I do not have an assembled kit yet but when I do I will share! I hope to have one that is historical and one that isn't.
Just go to any Ren Fest anywhere and you'll see plenty of 'em. ...........McM
Hi,

I'm actually working on a semi Skyrim/D&D Barbarian cosplay for cons. I'm using my leather cuirass and pauldrons and going to add fur to it. Probably going to get a latex LARP sword since most cons won't allow real weapons, even if they're peace tied. I can post pics if I get things done for Gencon this summer.

Awesome, that would be great! Looking forward to seeing those pics!
This is one I did last year. A mix of periods and cultures.

That appears to be celtic lamellar, roman-esque battle skirt, not sure about the greaves and vambraces, but the helmet looks eastern european, perhaps polish with the mask? Or more Russian/Ukranian?
Love that kit. Nicely coordinated mash up of times and cultures. The helm reminds me more of the later Roman cavalry helmets than the Eastern European face-plate helms
The helm with the face is a Roman face plated cavalry helm. The rest is a mix of fantasy, Roman, Viking etc.. I needed it to be functional though so I put some thought into making it all work as a functional armour. I have used it for SCA, steel fighting and I even jousted in it a few weeks ago using the heavier helmet. Those are steel lammaler over 5mm leather and the tooled sections are two layers of 5mm leather sewn together. All the stitching was done by hand. I did all the work on this. I did buy the Roman helmet and I bought the other helmet as a plain helmet and added the brass work, leather and front plate.

It's up for sale as well. I want to put back together my full mail 13thC harness.
Oh wow that's awesome! I definitely thought the helmet looked Roman but didn't know Roman helms ever had faceplates. Either way, beautiful work!
Please post pictures of your full mail somewhere when you have it together, Mr. Walker!

Anyone else have something snazzy for this thread? My own kit is slooooowly coming along, but...

True, I have indeed seen many but I am curious about if anyone on this site is interested in both the historical and fantastical!
Hey Rod, it will probably sell for more if you put some jousting dents in it first. Even better if you had video evidence. :)
I've slowly started to get into cosplay and it's nice being able to use skills and parts of kits from reenacting to help out. Here's a test I did for an Ankh-Morpork city watchman from Terry Pratchett's Discworld novel series. I think next time I wear this I'm going to ditch the doublet or just make a new one. I still need to find a replica of the Ankh-Morpork watch badges, or just make one my self.

That's awesome! Looking forward to seeing your future work!
Well,
I have heard of "carpet" armor as being surprisingly good and durable for simulator weapon sparring. I suspect it could be sewen with leather working thread. Supposedly the old 70s style thick pile long shag carpet was the thing for absorbing impact without all of the trouble of actually making pleats like some gambesons may have had. I have always wanted to see some just out of curiosity. Maybe someone here has a photo of someone wearing it at an event. I would love to see it!
