Bows
Where are some good places(online) to buy bows? I have only shot compund, but am interested in the more historical bows.

I am interested in both European and japanese bows, but the only ones I have been able to find are versions of Legolas's bow from the LOTR movie, which the arrows imo are way overpriced.

Any help in this matter would be greatly appraciated.
Try http://www.woodbows.com or http://www.rudderbows.com. Economical, but not really top of the line :)
Also check Ebay, there are always a few traditional bows for sale.

I have had good experiences with Rudderbows myself. They look fairly historically-official from about 10 feet away and they shoot very well for a stickbow in my opinion.
Here's a link to a seller of English long bows. http://www.bickerstaffebows.co.uk/index.htm

Ben
one stop shopping
Hi Guys,
Well I can't say for sure, not seeing the arrows or their price, but I can say there is a lot, a lot of work in making a good arrow, or ya. Much depends on how raw the materials are one starts with, and the level of performance you're shooting for. Often the bow is the simpler part of the equation IMO. I haven't searched much I recent times to see what is available on line, nor have I purchased anything from the link below, but I have always been impressed by the range, quality apperance of products. Many of the bowyers they use are well known and top notch: Kissenger, Welch, etc.
Their prices seem right in line for a properly made, good shooting bow. If I were less inclined to make my own I would go here. http://www.krackow.com/html/bows.html

If you go to Black widow bow's, i know they make recurve's if i remember right they have a few longbow's these are hunting bow's and i have heard alot of good thing's about there quality, they run fairly hig in price about 200 dollar's +or-, i have shot a couple of there recurve's at hunting show's and they are nice, these aren't replicated from any historic source they are a modern design, although the stick bow hasn't changed a whole lot in 500 year's even composite's were in use in the B.C. time period's.

Jeff
I stumbled on a very interesting bowyers page the other day. The fellow is Finnish, so some of the English is off. Mika showed up at SFI with a sword question and I trimmed his gif url to get;

http://www.netikka.net/nuotio/bb.htm

Really a well done page with a whole lot of how to. The links section might be worthwhile for some.

As well, there is the old trusty Sir Clisto Archery index here;
http://www.sirclisto.com/16.html

I hate to admit it but when in doubt check Clisto out ;)
www.sirclisto.com
A bit of everything there.

A link more specific to the original post (digging through the Clisto linked pages, I'm sure there are more);
Horsebows - The Traditional Archery and Bows of Mongolia, Turkey and the Magyar People
http://www.horsebows.com/

By The Sword sells a Japanese bow on their bow page and there is this as well;

For japanese bows there is Asahi Archery (http://www.asahi-archery.co.jp) and Asahi America for american customers (http://www.kyudo.com/asahiam.html).
This thread has totally got me interested in getting a bow from horsebows.com. Thanks everybody for the great links. Now I just have to talk the wife into it. :\

Here is another link I found. This store seems to have everything. http://www.eagleclassicarchery.co.uk/

Here are some links to the bow sites I know:

www.archeryworld.co.uk

www.eagleclassicarchery.co.uk

www.quicks.com

www.english-longbow.co.uk

www.archery-centre.co.uk

hope that helps
And if you're interested in some period leaf-head arrows, Ragweed Forge carries them (look under throwing knives, I think...... about halfway down the page).
