While just now perusing the pages of KOA and other fine sellers, I come across throwing axes called hurlbats. Are these in any way historically inspired? I was under the impression that just about the only historic throwing axes were Fransiscas and certain tomahawks, but I could be wrong. If these hurlbats were used in antiquity...when...where...by who? They look way too modern, but once again, I could be wrong. I'm just recently getting into axes. Can't really see throwing a weapon at an enemy that can pick it up and throw it back at me if I miss. From the looks of them, I bet they'd be a lot of fun on a big pine-round target from about 30 feet. Big Grin Just wondering.............McM

We've had a few discussions on these in the past:

The second link has a nice picture of a similar looking projectile from Freydal.

Short answer: yes, they're historically inspired, but I'm not sure if KOA's hurlbat is based on any museum piece or just an original creation.
