A longsword blade on a messer hilt? That's interesting, I don't think I have seen that before.

Oh, there are straight messers like that, in all sizes.

The difference between a schwert and a messer is primarily a matter of hilt construction (essentially, sandwhiched tang = messer). IIRC, the distinction was made to settle a Renaissance copyright feud between the swordsmiths' and knifesmiths' guilds. Happy
