New Wallace Collection Catalogue
Check this out: Masterpieces of European Arms and Armour in the Wallace Collection and Complete Digital Catalogue of European Arms and Armour [Paperback].

This item (available for pre-order) appears to contain a paperback book ("Masterpieces of....") as well as a USB drive of the digital catalogues. The Amazon text says:

Quote:
Published on a USB drive, the Complete Digital Catalogue presents all the arms and armour held by the Wallace Collection in more than 7000 new photographs, ranging from whole pieces to close details and presenting them from many angles. This magnificent and visually stunning resource is both rapidly searchable and is fully comprehensive, containing also the texts of Sir James Mann's 1962 catalogue of the European arms and armour-which remains a fundamental reference work for the collection and for arms and armour studies in general-A.V.B. Norman's 1986 Supplement and every catalogue going back to 1900.

It's pricey, but probably is worth ever penny.
Ooooo I might have to soon make another little day trip into London to check out the Wallace collection again, I love love love that place, definite bonus to finding myself only 30 minutes north by train from central London lol
Looks like you can get just the book!!!

Here's hoping they'll have it at the Wallace Collection shop by the time I visit again the second week of Oct!
Wow, finally :D Last time I was at the Wallace Collection I asked about this and nobody seemed to know anything. I have a set of Mann's catalogues and have nearly worn them out  Better photos, and of the entire collection, there's winner right there

Pre-order placed.
Looks like there is an error in the pricing. 250 USD compared to 25.00 GBP!

On my last visit to the Wallace collection, I seem to remember that they already had a photographic catalogue of the collection, so I wonder in how this one will differ. I will have a read through when I am next there and compare.

Not really. Amazon UK lists these two items separately (book and digital collection):

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Masterpieces-European...900785861/
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Masterpieces-European...900785934/

The book by itself is 25.50 GBP. The digital catalogue is 148.75 GBP. Converting that total to USD is $285.11. :)

They were building a new catalog of images back in 2007. Nothing was published before this announcement. You might be thinking of the exquisite art book by Carlo Paggiarino. Its a massive coffee table art book. Its a fair bit of coin and few copies are left - but worth every penny.

The thing I find curious is that the images are on a USB drive! Why not the DVD or two as per the original plan? Are DVD's dead tech? :-)

Can't wait until the thing is actually available!!!!!

I don't know about that, but my Graz Landezeughaus CD-Rom hasn't worked for a couple of Mac OS upgrades. I can still access some of the stuff but it certainly doesn't run as intended. I'm thinking that a drive loaded with individual JPGs or whatever they are is actually a pretty good idea. Anyway, if there are 7,000 high-res images on that thing, I'm not sure DVDs would be practical.
Amazon now lists the price as $173.21 instead of $250. I'll be placing an order....

Luckily pre-ordering has a price guarantee that yields the lowest price obtained during the pre-order period.

Mackenzie,
This book is part of the set that is the subject of the post I merged yours with. It seems that in the UK, you can buy the book without buying the digital catalogue.

Works for me, I did not know it was posted earlier.

Great stuff - thanks Chad and Mackenzie!
For those of you able to get to the Wallace Collection: They'll have the paper catalogs in stock NLT 10/11. Might have 'em tomorrow, but I was told they'd definitely be in on Tuesday. There's some sort of launch event Mon.
My order was just cancelled by Amazon.com because it was pulled by the supplier. I'm pretty damn upset by it.

I wanted the digital version with the book, so I just bought it from Wallacecollection.org at a higher price. Screw it. I want to support the museum because they're amazing, but man, I wish their publisher didn't screw us with the Amazon.com supply thing. Oh well.
Well, crap. Amazon just cancelled my order too saying:

Quote:
Due to a lack of availability from our suppliers, we will not be able to obtain the following item(s) from your order:

Sir James Mann, Tobias Capwell "MASTERPIECES OF EUROPEAN ARMS AND ARMOUR IN THE WALLACE COLLECTION AND COMPLETE DIGITAL CATALOGUE OF EUROPEAN ARMS AND ARMOUR"

We've canceled the item(s) and apologize for the inconvenience.

for the paltry sum of £175.00
