Hanwei/Tinker collaboration update?
Has anyone heard anything regarding a second wave of Hanwei Tinker designs?

I believe this was very much on the roadmap, at least it was 3 years ago when I asked Tinker about it.
Guess the lack of update means this is buried, but given how successful this venture was (at least from a customer's perspective) I was hoping something would eventually surface.

I know Hanwei had production issues with the burning of their facilities. I also believe Tinker is now focusing on knives because sword making has become detrimental to his health.

Maybe someone, Mr Pogue or Tinker himself would be kind enough to shed some light on this here :)

Thanks,

J
We have some things in the works with Tinker... ;)

I heard a rumor of an H/T messer, that would be awesome!!! Out of the current lineup the Norman is my favorite and I hope more H/T models will feature peened construction.
I vote for a H/T Lowlander....with a REAL tang...peened. That would be brutal. :D .....McM
My vote goes for an H/T version of the old Tinker "Wakefield" sword

Hi Blake,

Thanks for commenting on this thread. This is exciting news! I think few will complain about the outcome of your first collaboration with Tinker P, so expectations will be high indeed!

When do you reckon you'll be able to share more with us on this (models and timeline)?

Different topic, but since I have you here I was wondering if your Crecy sword was ever released. I noticed this one for it's unusual blade profile (pronounced central ridge) but have not seen it surface anywhere since.

Cheers,

Julien

Sure thing, It will be a bit before we'll be announcing anything officially...

The Crecy was discontinued, cost most likely being the issue.

I have to second Mark Moore, a lightened and tuned H/T Lowlander would be amazing!!
I would really like to see a HT montante or zweihänder.
My vote is on a messer and that Wakefield looks pretty sporty too. ;)
Ahah, wasn't expecting the thread to turn into a wishlist.

To my opinion, Hanwei should continue to benefit from Tinker's expertise and use it to improve on it's usual production line, so sticking to what Tinker does best, and in my opinion, that's classic med sword types that will appeal to most, with simple yet beautiful lines.

Tinker's website is full of these, and it's not too much of a stretch to imagine most of these sword turned into HT models.
I personally think Tinker excelled on fuelered blades such as type XIV, type XII, Type XVI. He also made some amazing looking falchions (by the way Tinker, half the pictures on your website won't load anymore!).

Since HT swords are hex nut and dismountable it could awesome to offer hilt variants too.

Since Michael is having health issues regarding sword building, I'm sure he would have no problem just designing swords and letting Hanwei do the muscle-work. I would still consider these sword as H/T's, even without a handmade original. Hanwei could make blades and hilts until they 'get it right' in Tinkers eyes. Once he gives a thumbs up, they could start production. That's the way I see it anyhow. I'd buy one that floats my boat. :D ...........McM
And....Matthew P.--Thanks for the vote of confidence. I've been pushing for a Lowlander upgrade for a while now. I know it's big, heavy, awkward, and pretty much useless in modern times....but....Damn, it's big! I want one just to say I have one!!! H/T---H/T---H/T....!!!!   ...........McM
Forgot to add....Something similar to an Albion Laird or Caithness would be added to my collection also. Sweet to think about. A grip other than black would be sweet too... :D .......McM
Also forgot to add.....A nice Irish ring-pommel wouldn't get kicked to the curb either. I think that the existing line of blades offer a multitude of hilting options. I've even thought of using an EMSHS bare blade to use with an old Scottish basket to make a truly great looking basket-hilted broadsword. (I won't say the 'C' word....I know some are particular. ) So...What say you, Mr. Pouge.....C'mon....It's Christmas-time....Give us just a liiiittle hint?? You have a bunch o' kids in your candy store!!!.... :D .....McM
Mr. Pogue.....Sorry. My bad...............McM
