now those passages are very interesting. it looks like the people arrested for being armed are clear up to something. as the passages state they are out after curfew, clearly armed, and if they weren't up to no good, they'd look pretty suspicious. "Let them therefore be kept in safe custody until" I'm only guess that this passage means that they would be put to a trial?

Daniel,

But there is another angle to take as well. Usually the night watch in these towns Is made up of the governing body and other 'good men', i.e. their friends. These gents are likely well armed and I suspect many of these period of sword and weapon bans tie into either local or even kingdom wide instability. You do not like the rival political group in town.... easy take their weapons away, send in heavy armed soldiers to keep them in line, problem solved- at least for the one group.
