Hey everyone,

My father picked up a reproduction confederate light officers' sabre with metal scabbard at a flea market. (he is like me, "ooooooo, shiney!") Problem is, the darned blade doesn't fit in the scabbard, it sticks up about two inches.

I dont think either piece is bent, but rather it was a deffective scabbard pouring and the bottom tip of the scabbard is not hollow.

This thing is cheap-o, but we were going to give it away as a White elephant gift at our Civil War units' Christmas party.

Might anyone have a solution?

Thank you,

Greetings,

First of all, is the scabbard really long enough? Have you compared the blade's length to the scabbard's. I know this was obvious, but you never know. Second, is the blockage hard or squishy? I don't think that those type of scabbards are cast. I think they stamp them and then weld them. Otherwise they would be really hard to clean after casting. If the blockage is squishy or at least has some give, I would try using a piece of wire or something to try to fish it out. If it's really hard...maybe someone else has an idea Big Grin .

Good Luck,

Nate C.

Thanks nate. The scabbard should have plenty of length for the blade, I am at a loss. The blockage is hard and there is a bit of scrape just before the blade sticks in the bottom.

You're probably right about the casting and then welding. The interior of this scabbard, from what I can see at the inside lip, is rough and unfinished.

I figure it can't be helped, but maybe someone might have known a way of fixing it. *shrugs* For what he paid, its well enough for displaying out of scabbard on the wall. Its a shame really, it would have been a nice White elephant gift.

Oh well,
