Mediaeval swords from Ukraine
Hope these pics spread a little joy. I was in Krakow, Poland, last week and came across a temporary exhibition of early mediaeval stuff (9th-13th centuries) from Ukraine in the Archaeology Museum, including these fantastic silver-gilt hilts on some rather moth-eaten iron blades. I don't read Polish or Ukrainian but the labels were very thin anyway - basically just "iron sword".

Great stuff Neil!!! Thanks for posting these. I really like the type u (?) sword that is pictures last. Very cool decoration on it!
Swords are from Podgorcy-Ukraine.Type U-V is pattern welded with three twisted rods and decoration is rather unusual for this type.Ivery like this sword.
