This blade started out as a dirk I was making for a friend who then decided to go a different route. I wasn't sure what to do with it until I saw an Arms and Armor skeane (based on a specimen from the Irish National Museum).. or Irish fighting knife. This blade is a little short for those.. but the shape is in the ball park. I recently decided to finish this when I gave up on a bog oak grip that I was making for a Viking sword. The size and shape ended up being perfect for use on this skeane so I went with it. The shape is a little more typical for Scottish dirks and sgian dubhs... so I might consider this knife to be a Scottish dirk/Skeane hybrid. It is 17" over all in length and the spine is 5/16" thick. This is a strong blade. It is of laminated steel construction with 19th century wrought iron, pure nickel and W2. The sheath is based on various photos I've seen used for the skeane.

This knife is currently available. Please see the available work section on my website: http://bigrockforge.com/category/available/

I just stumbled on this and I just wanted to bring it back to surface. It's a simple but at the same time very detailed and beautiful knife, and it looks very handy too... I see it is sold, lucky owner, whoever that is...
