I like my grips in red. These three longswords were done by Christian Fletcher:
Venetian Bastard Sword, Borderwatch, Austrian Great Sword.

My Albion single-handers are both in aged oxblood, which leans toward brown in certain light.

I rather like the orange one! I also need something in green. Which means I need another sword.

Here's my usual two Viking swords that I seem to post everywhere: sorry for being so unimaginative and lazy! And additional apologies for the colour rendition most likely being entirely random. The Valkyrja has an oxblood-coloured grip (I think I nearly lost what was one of the final couple thanks to my dithering, but I love it!) and the Armour Class Saxon has a rather nice alternating wood and acid-etched metal thing going on.

That's also one of Tod's scabbards clothing the Valkyrja. It's really very good!

To bring up an old thread, I am gearing up to purchase an Albion Sempach (probably my first and last high end sword), although the question of grip colour comes up. I want it to stand out (within Albion's basic colour range), but not be overly loud

I had thought about a light brown (campaign worn) grip but I'm not keen on the mottled look, as I had thought it'd be more similar to the Albion Maestro line cord wrap, then I see some chose red and dark brown, I quite like the idea of the red or the ox blood red. One fellow said for the likes of the Sempach he felt it deserved a good coloured grip.

For those that went red, how did they find it? Was it too bright? after a while of use does it go pinky worn in colour?
If it goes a deep red (through handling) that'd be cool.

As for the ox blood, I have read that it can be somewhat too dark in colour, it would suit if it were not to dark.

I have trolled through lots of pics though haven't found a good pic yet to reflect a worn red grip (of an Albion).

So please if you have red, or variant, or would like to share on the other colours, please your thoughts.

You're probably referring to me, since I posted a photo of my Sempach with a red grip. Over time, the tendency is for all grips to darken, so you don't need to worry about it becoming pink. Oxblood after it darkens will probably be closer to brown, so if you like a red or deep red, you made the right call.

Out of curiousity, did you see my photo at the beginning of the thread? It's a good example of a lightly aged red grip. The light causes the grip to appear more brown than it actually was at the time.

Ah yes was you who mentioned the grip Craig, yea I couldn't tell how red your Sempach was, well at least it's good to know that the grip goes darker, as my Liechtenauer has gone from that nice light tan to a, well, campaign worn brown.
I suppose then it's not to much of a worry for how bright it begins it's life as it'll become a nice colour with age, provided it get's handled, and that it will.

After much thought and owner coments etc., between the Fiore, Sempach and Earl, it will be the Sempach that I'll have.
So I think it will be a red grip also.

I think the Red grip on a Sempach is the way to go...slightly darkened fittings to go along with it would really make it pop IMO.

Mine's Albion's magenta, which is closer to most people's oxblood. Albion's oxblood is very brown.

Bah now I'm thinking of ox blood! Initially I had always thought ox blood would be cool, and looking through some other images it does look good, although I did find one which had three Albion swords (in the pic) all with ox blood and all a different variant almost.
So would it be safe to say that it should come out a dark red? (as seen in this thread), my main concern is that stright red may be to bright for my tastes and that the ox blood may be to brown, I'd like it to be dark red, or a deep red colour (which I had envisioned ox blood).

Still either would look good, though think now I'm leaning to Ox over red.

My red grip looked very similar to Chad's "oxblood" grip. The red grip on my friend's Duke also looks very similar to Chad's grip. Albion's normal oxblood is darker than this, and I think has more of a purplish-tinge to it. So, if you like Chad's sword, I would recommend requesting red.
