Hello!

I'm in the process of making a viking shield, and while the glue is drying, I'm trying to figure out how to paint the face of the shield.
I know I want it to be red and white, I'm not sure about the pattern though.

Should I just divide the face in four areas and paint them red and white interchangably? Or should I use a more complex pattern? What do you think is most aspproptriate? I'm aiming for the late 10th, early 11th century, norwegian or danish viking.

I attached pictures of two variants that I'm considering.

Thanks!

Sweet looking shield.
Both variants are historically accurate but my personal favorite would be the second one.
