The weight surprises me. I wonder where that extra pound is located? With that COG there is going to be some blade presence - it's definitely a horseman's sword.
On your original specs you indicated a lot of distal taper. Was that carried out on the blade? If A&A did that, then the balance may well make the extra weight irrelevant.

I guess the weight on these swords comes from maintaining quite a wide blade for the full length of a moderately long sword, a short fuller, and the need for a heavy pommel to balance it all out with single hand length grip.
The overall dimensions are similar to Albion's Tritonia (which I also have). I think Tritonia is about 3.5 lbs. From that comparison, some extra weight here might arise from having the equivalent of a central ridge running through the fuller, bifurcating it into two fullers. That also ought to make the blade stiffer I suppose - won't know till I get it.

I sure hope so! That was what I had in mind with the design. From my meagre museum research, some of those original XIII blades have a very pronounced concave linear taper. Tritonia has a moderate taper of this type which helps a lot to keep it manageable.
Its going to be interesting to compare this sword with the Tritonia when I get it.

Hi Guys just a quick note, I screwed up on one dimension I sent Doug. The blade width is 2.5 not 1/5 so there is a bit of the weight. We followed Doug's specs he sent us on distal quite closely. We knew this sword would be a handful and wanted to make sure we where not carrying any extra. Doug prefers his swords to have a lot of presence so we think he will like it.
Have a few pics I will post in a bit.

I'm glad you clarified that Craig. Can't wait to see those pictures, let alone handle the sword!
By the way, I'm in Birmingham England at the moment, practically across the street from the Museum and Art Gallery. I hear they have an armor collection so will try to check it out today after my meeting.

PS, having just got back from Birmingham museum, I feel slightly silly - forgot this is home to the Staffordshire Horde. The National Geographic showing in DC had a better display, but apparently 'new' little bits keep coming to light here.

That really turned out great. I was personally lukewarm on the design when this thread first started, but now that the sword is complete I REALLY like it. Congratulations.

Just got back home from a long tiring trip...
Thanks for comments lads. I'm sure Craig appreciates it - A&A will deserve some kudos for pulling off this one. Credit for the design goes to some forgotten 13th century German and/or Transylvanian bladesmiths/cutlers. I hope we got it right from the available literature. Some of the originals of this type were even bigger than this!
I will definitely write some comments and take more pics when it comes home. Some in hand and some against other swords for comparison.
But right now...I could use a beer!
