Collectible Insurance
I'm sure this topic has come up before, but i was unable to find it using the search function.

I was talking with my neighbors last night , and they mentioned that someone had broke into their car the night before. While talking with them they mentioned their house had been broken into a month previous... nothing missing , just rifled through one of the teenage boys rooms.

I thought... "yeah ... just teenagers" , and I mad sure to lock my cars.

Then I thought " Teenagers like swords and weapons " and I shuddered.

Then I thought " My collection is worth more than my cars" , and REALLY shuddered.

It is. Maybe not worth more... but the replacement value is more than my cars.

Now that is pretty serious.

I do have a 170 lb Mastiff and 3 Yorkies of terror which collectively weigh 20 lbs but other than that...

So... how do you protect your swords / weapons?

Do you rely on your home owners policy?

Do any of you have collectible insurance?

Any good stories of insurance actually paying off?

Any "youre not covered " horror stories?

Please advise me on the best way youve found to protect/insure your collection.

Thanks.

I think most such things--rare books, antiques, jewelry-- are easily covered by a rider on your homeowner's insurance. You'd have to document everything properly, with receipts, photos, etc.
Here are threads on related and/or similar topics:

Documentation of your collection
Sword insurance
Protecting your collection against theft
How do you organize/document your collection?

I'm sure there are more. These were found in a couple of minutes using the Search term "insurance" and limiting the Search to the Off-Topic Talk forum. Using slightly different terms (maybe "insure" or "policy" for example) might yield more.
Resurrecting this topic because I did look at other topics related to this and have not seen the specific issue I have just encountered addressed.

When I contacted my insurance company about my collection they told me that my collection was covered under my homeowners policy BUT if the items left the house they would not be covered. So if I were to bring some of my collection to an event or gathering they would NOT be covered in case of theft. According to them this is a common limitation on insurance for collectables protected by homeowner insurance.

So my question is: is there specialty insurance that would cover swords and other similar items should they be brought on the road for the purposes of display or participation in a reenactment event? Anyone aware of anything like that?

Thanks.
