This isn't entirely historical since I incorporated some modern elements into the design... but here is a knife inspired by the many Celtic war knives I've been looking at. The blade is forged from melted/carburized wrought iron that is very, very high in carbon. To bring the C content down I ended up doing a piled construction with alternating layers of wrought iron. The grip is Ceylon ebony with fossilized walrus ivory spacer and iron/copper ring pommel. The little knife is the first blade I made from the billet as a test. They ended up both going to the same customer as a pair since they looked so good together. The scabbards are hardened goat skin.
Thanks! I did start the thread with a disclaimer ..... 'inspired' :-) And the recurved blade itself is similar to a number of war knives I've seen.http://www.bigrockforge.com
