real 13th cenury sword found on ebay take a look
have a look at this real 13th to 14th century sword found on ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewIt...egory=1552
I'm not sure about that one. Swords from anonymous British collections and of Eastern European origin are a bit dodgy in my eyes. Could be real, but the seller has had some dubious stuff for sale before. What I find curious about this sword is the poor fit of the guard - most originals I've seen and/or handled have displayed a much tighter fit. I wouldn't bid on that sword unless I had had the opportunity to handle it first.

Orange rust?
Isn't orange rust ussually the active kind?

the kind that might result from a sword being artifically aged, or from exceedingly poor care?

I don't think that the sword would have lasted 600-700 years with that kind of maintence.

Well, the seller says that the sword hasn't been preserved, and that it was found "decades" ago, so the active rust might be a result of storing in humid conditions. It could be artifically aged modern repro made in Eastern Europe a couple of years ago just as well. Hard to tell.
Total....
Total fake, this EFTIS person/group has sold a huge amount of fake swords for tens of thousands of dollars and no matter how many times we report them, ebay does nothing. I havent pinpointed what brand this sword is but Im actually thinking it may be a Del Tin, they also sold a fake gladius recently for a considerable amount of money.
