I've decided to start researching a 14th Century Kit. The only thing I'm sure about is that I want the kit to include a klappvisored bassinet (something along the lines of http://clang.adkinssoftware.com/hist%20helm/klap%2001.html). I've fallen in love with this style helm and when I get to the point of purchasing the helmet this is the route I want to take. But I don't want to get ahead of myself. I plan on doing the soft kit first and work my way out to armor. I only mention the helm because it is the penultimate goal.

I've spent hours looking through effigies and brasses and have not been able to find one which depicts the helm. Am i missing something? Or should I choose one of the era appropriate effigies and accept some creative liscence as to the visor? I'm trying to avoid the pitfalls of going back and altering my soft kit after the fact.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It is common for effigies to not depict visors. (This is probably because they wanted the persons face to be visible.) Some effigies show raised visors, some show visor mounts, but a lot don't.

I can't access your helmet link, but a klapvisor bascinet is probably safe for most 1330-1400 Germanic impressions.

Look through artwork in the Empire from maybe 1360 on for the next fifty or so years. Basically it seems to be generally located there and thereabouts. I'd use the effigies from the Empire and areas right around it for the harness.

That helm is a personal passion of mine as well (also hourglass gauntlets).

Thanks again to everyone for the help.

I've read a lot about this age being transitional but to actually see it in the effigies was fantastic. It seems like I could go anywhere with this kit and that's pretty exciting. The soft kits seem pretty interesting as well. I do have a question regarding the coathardies in a few of the effigies. They seem to have short sleeves or at least sleeves of a different material. Also it looks like they have cloth or chains attached at the short sleeves.

There is so much to like about this effigy; brigandine, the weapon chains, splinted chauses, plate demi greaves, scale sabatons. It's giving examples of so many different things it seems to clearly show this to be an evolutionary period.
