What do you think of a helm like this? It could be a good compromise...
I could not find an original one, but just to throw in this idea...!

( I've edited this post because of its bad bad bad english... I'm not sure it's ok now, but I'm doing my best!)

A small, bothersome doubt: IS that helmet ACTUALLY HISTORICAL in some way? :wtf:
I wouldn't be surprised to hear a simple NO, but I don't have enough knowledge to judge it!

No idea what it's called, but I have seen a similar one at Stansted Mountfitchet Norman Village:

 WOW!
Good new! It is not something come out from the mind of a fantasy style artist!
Sorry to rustle your jimmies, but it's obvious that it's a modern reproduction....
best medieval helm
I personally think the Italian armet is a very practical and beautiful helm.

1. The helm is very form fitted for the wearer
2.You have the option or remove the visor when fighting on foot
3.Has mail aventail as part of the helm to give it more maneuverability and added protection
4.Ideal for mounted combat
5. Gives pretty good field of vison
6. Has strengthened brow defense
7. Looks pimpin' when you have a crest on top :D

Armet made by William West
My vote goes to Barbute.

Simple, stylish, and available with a lot of options. It has good vision, facial protection, is light and simple. It can also come with a nasal to protect the nose.

Great compromise between protection and efficiency.
