Seeking photos of original Landsknecht dagger
I am looking for photos or info on a particular original in the Met, accession # 26.145.40. There is a single photo of it in this article (fig. 4, 4th page of the excerpt)- http://www.metmuseum.org/pubs/journals/1/pdf/...nnered.pdf

No images are availible on the Met's site and I am not able to tell if it is currently on display. I would be very grateful for any info or images of this piece as well as similar originals.

I would also welcome any discussion about other Landsknecht daggers, the variety of styles that were developed in this relatively short time period and localized region is fascinating to me and I suspect that I have barely scratched the surface. The article linked above mentions 9 other Landsknecht daggers in the Met's posession that are "of the same typological group and can be considered as prototypes of true parrying weapons".

Hi Justin,
Head over to the message boards of Vikingsword.com. They have several threads on Landsknechts/Katzbalgers, etc..., and there's a recent thread on a dagger similar to that in fig.5 of the Met article.

Thanks, E.B., that's my next stop. The Katzbalger thread is a good one, I have visited it quite a bit.
Just a head's up to say that it's easier to get help if you do some of the initial legwork for us. I've found that if you do the legwork of grabbing the image and including it here, others will often be more able to take that and run with it. If you create a situation where others have to go hunt something on an external link or open a PDF, etc., that help comes a lot slower, if ever. People are busy and/or lazy. :)

According to the image captain, the accession number is 26.145.40 at the The Metropolitan Museum of Art.
