This question may have popped up elsewhere on this forum but there are literally hundreds of posts so I apologize if this question has been asked before.
I am fairly new to arms and armour and my collection is quite small compared to others on the board. What I would like to ask all you nice folks is how many of you actually use your swords for the purpose for which they were made. I don't mean grizzly death here, just what methods you employ to use them, whether it is reenactment or in the back yard. Also how many of you just like to hang them on the wall and admire the beauty.
One final question. I have seen many of the galleries on this site and some have a collection of RETIRED swords. What exactly determines a sword as retired?

"Retired" in our featured collection galleries means sold/given away/moved on/no longer in the collection.
Regarding what people do with their collections, there are umpteen threads on that subject, including What do you do with your swords?.
To everyone, please add any further discussion to an existing thread, not this one. We don't need to have the same info in multiple places. Thanks!

Mark,
No problem at all and nothing to apologize for. We're just trying to keep from unnecessarily adding to the plethora of threads everyone already has to sift through.
